Calpe

At the heart of the Costa Blanca lies the ancient fishing village of Calpe which is fast becoming a tourist magnet as the town sits in an ideal location and easily accessed by the motorway that runs from Valencia to Alicante it is approximately one hour drive from the airport at Alicante.

Calpe has a wonderful mixture of old Valencian culture and modern tourist facilities. It is a great base from which to explore the local area or enjoy the many local beaches. Calpe alone has three of the most beautiful sandy beaches on the coast and is dominated and overlooked by the towering rock known as the Peñon de Ifach which reaches an impressive 332m. For those brave enough to try and climb the rock this can be done, but is not advised for those with a fear of heights and the climb is quite dangerous with narrow paths and steep ledges to navigate. From the top however you will be rewarded with breathtaking views and on a clear day you can see Ibiza!

Calpe has great shopping and eating and a very big market on Saturday mornings. There is a train station although not in the heart of the town but you can take the coastal route as far South as Alicante or a little further North to Denia.

Fishing is still a big industry in this town with fishing boats going out daily. You can attend the local fish auction and see the local restaurants bidding for the daily catches. Many restaurants on the promenade display their freshly purchased fish for you to choose and they will then prepare and cook a delicious meal for you to enjoy.
