Alfaz del Pi
Alfaz, a mainly residential area is not only a market town full of hustle and bustle, it also has a history that is sometimes forgotten. Alfas del Pi began as a settlement originally called L'Alfas de Polop. The settlement was set back from the beach (known as Albir) and fortified in order to defend itself from the pirates along this stretch of the Spanish coast. The name Alfaz means "sown land" and was given to the town by the Moors who grew fruits, olives, vines and almonds providing the main source of labour and income in the area and of course, you can find these products at the weekly markets, fresh and full of flavor. Visit the local Mendoza winery and vineyards for a great day out and plenty of tasting of the local wines or enjoy a relaxing day at an outdoor café bar, particularly pretty around the church square. Friday is a busy day with the local market and you can take a bus or train to the other nearby towns.
